To all Big Canoe GHIN members from your Handicap Committee:

2022 promises to be an exciting year with the reopening of the Creek 9 and the 50th Anniversary events.  The Committee would like to take this opportunity to remind you of some important matters.

PLEASE POST YOUR SCORES IMMEDIATELY AFTER COMPLETING A ROUND!  It is extremely important that scores be posted promptly, before midnight of the day you played if possible. Many members find it easier to make a habit of returning to the pro shop and using the computer terminal there. If you do forget, the score MUST be posted before playing your next round, and please make sure the correct date is entered.  The Committee is required by GHIN to conduct random spot checks to ensure that all postable rounds are included in your Recent Scores, so if you fail to post a score in a timely manner you will likely receive a friendly reminder from us, asking for an explanation before a penalty score is assessed. Of course, you must post your away rounds in the same timely manner.

If you play a round at Big Canoe, and do not post a score, you must enter it in the Non-Posting logbook in the pro shop, indicating the reason for not posting.  This could include the following:

  • A solo round, where you played alone and the round was not witnessed;
  • A scramble or shamble, where you did not play your own ball from tee to green;
  • You played less than 7 holes, due to weather, injury, etc.;
  • You used equipment or a device prohibited under the Rules of Golf (see next paragraph)
  •

TURN OFF THE SLOPE FEATURE ON YOUR RANGEFINDER.  Unless you are playing a practice round that will not be posted, the use of the slope feature is prohibited, as it is not acceptable under the Rules of Golf.

IF YOU DON’T FINISH THE ROUND, POST A SCORE ANYWAYS. If you completed at least 7 holes, a score must be posted.  For 7 to 12 holes, post a 9-hole score. For 13 or more holes completed, post an 18-hole score. For each hole not completed enter a score equal to par plus any handicap strokes you are entitled to on that hole (using your Course Handicap).

REACH OUT TO THE COMMITTEE WITH YOUR QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS. If you have concerns about a fellow player’s handicap, please feel free to report it to the Committee for review. And if you have any questions about these rules and guidelines, please feel free to contact the Committee or the Golf Pro staff.
